If you plan to park a car at Heathrow, you should make a reservation for parking in advance of your arrival. You can do this up to 24 hours prior to your trip. It’s important for every reservation to include your vehicle ID number. This number is entered into your reservation and the number is auto-recognized—this is for faster service. Also, another important point is the price you see on the webpage may not be the same price you see a week later. And one of the reasons it stands out is due to its character…mahogany furniture, Sicillian Carrara Marble in the bathrooms. With two fine restaurants on site and a bar, spa and workout facilities what more could you want? How about proximity to the airport…it’s only about 5 minutes away. Heathrow’s airport hub makes shopping easy. If you are departing and arriving through Heathrow, you can use a service called Reserve and Collect. This service allows you to shop online prior to your flight and collect your items prior to departure. An example of how you would use this service is to reserve baby milk. This way you don’t have to carry the liquid through security, which in most cases is not allowed. They also have a Shop and Collect option which is available to customers leaving and arriving through Heathrow. This option allows you to shop in the terminal and collect your items when you return—that way you don’t have to worry about them during your travels, nor do you have to find room for them in your luggage. And, they go one step further. If you are a Heathrow Rewards Member, you can shop and have your items delivered directly to your UK or EU home! There are thresholds to meet for this service. You have to spend at least 300 Euros for this service. If you are not a Heathrow Rewards Member you can still enjoy this service, but you have to spend a minimum of 500 Euros—and, you need to have a home address in the UK or EU. Terminal 5 is going through some renovations and you can find better stores and more variety here. Some luxury and rare stores that you can find include Hugo Boss, Bottega Veneta, Bvlgari, and Cartier. For food and wine items there is a Caviar House and Prunier. Here, you can find not only caviar but specialty salmon, exquisite chocolates and champagne for sale.

Looking for something you simply could not find anywhere else or just want to be pampered with excellent service? Try Harrods. They have a reputation of finding exactly what you need and nothing at this store seems to be impossible. Give it a try!

One area where the airport hub seems to be lacking is in the entertainment arena. And perhaps this is why the airport only ranked 8th in the World against other airports. There is nothing that the author could find to do at the airport during a long layover other than eat and shop. But there is he T5 Gallery, a permanent art exhibit that aims to promote up and coming talent and support the sales of fine art. There are also the airport lounges and the wellness and beauty stations. Let’s take a look. At World Duty Free you can browse cosmetics and even get a free makeover before your flight. In Terminal 3, you can get an express massage, manicure or pedicure at No. 1 Traveller Lounge and Spa. This is just one of the options for massages throughout Heathrow’s 5 Terminals. The No.1 Traveller Lounge and Spa also offers bedrooms for private naps. The rooms feature TV, desks and an en-suite bathroom. So you can catch up on sleep, take a shower and perhaps watch a little TV, too. These rooms are available for travelers that have three or more hours between flights. Rooms cost about 60 Euros ($65 US Dollars) for one person and 90 ($98 US Dollars) for two. The two person accommodations are bunk beds.

Another choice for private rooms is the Yotel. They feature a “techno wall” and en-suite bathrooms. This is a more of a budget choice, as rooms are only 35 Euros for four hours and up to 65 Euros overnight. This company offers cute sleeping pods at several other airports around the world, you can make reservations right on their website.

Perhaps one of the reasons people like the Heathrow Flight hub is because of the London Heathrow Express. This is an express train that takes people to and from central London to the airport in 15 minutes. Which means, less cars at the airport, what a novel idea! Tickets cost about 21.50 Euro ($23.42 US Dollars) for a single person to ride. Kids are always free between the ages of 0-15. They have books of passes and business/first class tickets. Customers can purchase books of passes and get a little bit of savings. One tip to note, when you buy a round trip ticket you save money vs. buying a one way ticket twice. This is not a cost effective option—if you think you will need the round trip ticket buy it and save a few Euros. Also, don’t forget to check the Discount, Deals and Offers webpage there are many surprises here such as group rates, duo rates and the Carnet Card which gives the rider twelve one way rides for the price of nine.

This reviews show that Heathrow’s mega flight hub, although modern, still has some of the classic offerings such as shoeshine at National Shoe Shine. Perhaps this is what makes a huge airport still feel quaint.
